Second portrait of a female destiny, that of the Brazilian psychoanalyst, Suely Rolnik. A major figure in her homeland, imprisoned during the dictatorship, then exiled in Paris during the 70s, which stoked her passion for ideas, inspired a profusion of theories and led to unshakeable friendships with the philosopers Deleuze and Guattari, Rolnik embodies an existence dedicated to resisting deadly forces. It is a coutry (Brazil), a city (São Paulo) and above all an epoch that are offered up here to our senses. Beyond heroism and beyond glib simplifications – beyond any existing model in fact – Manon de Boer sought to make her film in the manner of a sensitive “surface”. – Jean-Pierre Rehm
